Hi folks,
Summer church camp can be a transformative experience for our children and youth! Just look at Ava, Isabella, Claire, Angie & Breda, our Heifer Ambassadors! Ask Ava or Angie about Camp Aldersgate!
Below are
- Our Parent letter explaining how we handle scholarships.
- Scholarship form.
- The list of websites for church camps; we have many choices with our denominations: United Methodist and United Church of Christ, as well as American Baptist (Grotonwood).
A couple of comments from my experience with these camps and also perusing their websites:
Day Camps:
Heifer Project in Rutland & Grotonwood in Groton, offer day camp experiences, which is excellent for first time campers not looking for overnight camp. Grotonwood Day Camp offers early drop & late pick up.
Heifer Project is wonderful if you want to be immersed in that ministry and global poverty issues, with hands on experiences with farm animals.
Overnight Camps: These may be general in nature or have a special focus like, Christian clowning, horseback riding, living arts (may involve
performance), global village, etc.- the choices are many!
Camp Aldersgate in Rhode Island is a little over an hour away from Lunenburg. It is a very well run & established Methodist camp. A number of our
students have attended & loved it.
Camp Wanakee in Meredith,. NH , is also an excellent Methodist camp – about 1 hr. & 40 min from Lunenburg. Includes a ropes course.
Silverlake Camp is about 3 hrs. away in CT and is a UCC camp, which includes off-site work camps for HS seniors who want hands on mission
experience.
Grotonwood in Groton is an American Baptist Camp only 20 min from Lunenburg if campers are young and want to be close to home. Also offers a low
ropes course experience.
Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop, Maine, is a very well run Methodist program. Our own Pastor Ernie will be coaching the soccer camp there this year! It's
about a three hour ride from Lunenburg.
Family Camps:
Make it a family experience (or grandparent experience) at Star Island, Oceanwood or Geneva Point.
Our family went to the Labor Day Family Camp at Geneva Point for 25 years and have awesome memories of our time together in a beautiful, safe,
Christian setting – lots of fun, singing, outdoor worship –lifelong friendships were made!
Hopes this helps!
Please do let me know if your child or youth plans to attend a camp – which week and which camp.
I will help network you together. First time campers may be more willing to go with a friend.

Ruth Ann
